TRSDC names Archirodon to build Shurayrah crossing

The Red Sea Development Co. (TRSDC) appointed marine infrastructure contractor, Archirodon, to build a 1.2 kilometer (km) bridge as part of the 3.3 km crossing, linking Shurayrah Island - the destination’s main hub- to the mainland in the Red Sea Project.

Archirodon will undertake engineering, procurement as well as construction works to build Shurayrah bridge, which comprises two causeways linked by a bridged span, TRSDC said in a statement.

Ready-mix concrete will be supplied near the coast to facilitate offloading onto the island.

TRSDC CEO John Pagano said that the Shurayrah crossing will represent a key element to reach the destination’s main hub, being the first bridged span linking the mainland and the islands.

“The crossing underpins the company’s ability to undertake huge construction works, while eliminating the environmental impact,” he noted.

The Red Sea Project already surpassed significant milestones and work is on track to welcome the first guests by the end of 2022, when the international airport and the first four hotels will open.

The remaining 12 hotels scheduled for completion in Phase one will open in 2023, delivering a total of 3,000 rooms across five islands and two inland resorts.

In February 2021, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the nature-inspired Coral Bloom designs for the 11 unique resorts on the Red Sea Project’s main island, Argaam reported.

The project will be developed over 28,000 square kilometers (sqkm) of pristine lands and waters along Saudi Arabia’s west coast and includes a vast archipelago of more than 90 islands.

Upon completion in 2030, the Red Sea Project will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and around 1,300 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment and leisure facilities.
