Assets of Saudi investment funds rise 11% to SAR 232.8 bln in Q1 2021

The total value of assets held by investment funds in Saudi Arabia grew by 11% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to SAR 232.8 billion during the first quarter of 2021, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

The increase was driven by a 3% rise in local assets – which represent 66% of total assets - to SAR 154.3 billion, while foreign assets rose 31% to SAR 78.5 billion.

Investment funds are either open-end or closed-end; the total assets of open-end funds stood at nearly SAR 203.1 billion, or 87% of total fund assets, while assets of closed-end funds reached approximately SAR 29.8 billion.

On the other hand, the number of investment funds operating in the Kingdom stood at 251 in Q1 2021, down by three funds, compared to 2020.

The number of subscribers jumped by 23,400 to 382,200 by the end of Q1 2021 when compared to 2020-end.
