Boeing wins $240 mln contract for Saudi AWACS upgrades

The Boeing Co. has won a contract worth $240.2 million from the US Air Force for the first phase of Royal Saudi Air Force’s (RSAF) airborne warning and control system (AWACS) modernization program.

The US Department of Defense said the contract provides for AWACS mission computing, navigation and communications upgrades, as well as the next generation in identification, friend or foe enhancement designs.

In addition, the contract involves foreign military sales to Saudi Arabia, and is the result of a sole-source acquisition.

Work is expected to be completed by Feb. 28, 2019, and will be done in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Saudi Arabian letter of offer and acceptance case funds in the amount of $240,195,180 are being obligated at time of award,” the department said.
