SAMA, PIF retain ranks among world's top SWFs

Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) has retained position as the world’s fifth biggest sovereign fund with a net worth of $494 billion, despite a $20 billion withdrawals from October 2017, SWF Institute’s December 2017 data showed.

Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) also maintained its 11th spot with assets valued at $223.9 billion. PIF had announced plans to increase its total assets to $400 billion (SAR 1.5 trillion) by the end of 2020.

Norway’s Government Pension Fund topped the list of largest Sovereign wealth funds in the world with assets standing at $998.9 billion.

China Investment Corporation (CIC) climbed to the second place by $900 billion worth of assets followed by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA).

The combined assets of all sovereign funds under study amounted to $7.58 trillion by the end of 2017, with Saudi Arabia and UAE accounting for 9.5 and 17.2 percent of total assets, respectively.
